NBA Cares 2018: George Wanjiku from Special Olympics Kenya

Special Olympics has changed his life, as his community’s attitude towards him has gone from one of misunderstanding to respect and admiration. An independent home owner, subsistence farmer and motor vehicle mechanic, he is seen as a role model in his village.

George Wanjiku, 24, has been playing Basketball with Special Olympics Kenya’s University of Nairobi Club for over four years, and got to represent his country in a team for the LA World Games 2015.

Special Olympics has changed his life, as his community’s attitude towards him has gone from one of misunderstanding to respect and admiration. An independent home owner, subsistence farmer and motor vehicle mechanic, he is seen as a role model in his village.

And now, even more so that he has once again played at the highest level with NBA Cares in New Orleans, Louisiana! Looking back at the experience,

George shares that “It’s a great feeling to be selected and I am excited to be able to play Basketball!”
